Daring drivers made difficult journeys across the country to bring attention to this need for a "Coast-to-Coast Rock Highway.". Many novels. Once I learned the history of the highwayand that it extended from Times Square to San FranciscoI couldnt believe my luck. Conversely, farming was an industry in desperate shape by the 1930s, and it had been made worse by an Agricultural Adjustment Act that presumed to regulate the industry in suffocating ways. Towles' new novel ranges further geographically from Nebraska's farmland to New York's Adirondacks by way of some of New York City's iconic sites but its action-packed plot is compressed into just 10 days. Perhaps counter-intuitively, one of the reasons I outline with such care is to free up my imagination while Im writing the book.
